Sean Rodriguez TB - SROD hit a HR and added a triple, going 3 for 3 with a SB to boot. With so many options in Tampa, Rodriguez doesn’t see everyday ABs. Watch for him in 2011 – he has 15-20 HR potential.
Hunter Pence HOU - Pence has hit well after the break and continued last night, hitting a three run shot against the Cards. Pence was 2 for 2 with a HR and SB – he’s 21/17 so far 40/40 fans.
Jimmy Rollins PHI - Keep Rollin, Rollin, Rollin, Rollin, Come on… JROLL went 2 for 4 with a HR, 3 R and a SB. The Phillies are starting to click and since he’s finally healthy, Rollins is a must start in all formats for the fantasy stretch. Stretch. Stretch. Alexei! Sidenote: The Hawk is really grown on me this year.
Brandon Allen ARI – The prospect who was acquired for Juan Cruz last season from Detroit, made his 2010 debut and hit a grandslam in the seventh inning last night. Allen, a first baseman and one of many prospects called up on Wednesday, started in left. He seems to be the first baseman in waiting – LaRoche is most likely done after the year. Allen was probably drafted in keeper and NL leagues this season – he might be able to add some cheap power for you over the last month in deeper re-draft leagues. More on September call-ups to follow in coming posts.
Wes Helms FLA – Wes Helms? Yup. Wes MothaF@#$%N Helms! Helms took part in the Marlins blowout/brawl – more on that later in the post. Of course, on a night where he has 5 RBI, he’ll never be mentioned. I mention him here. First time. Probably the last time. Helms is only a NL bench guy in the deepest of leagues.
Neil Walker PIT – The Young Bucs have a second baseman. Walker, a converted catcher and third baseman, is raking since his May call-up and is batting .310 with 9 HR. That includes his 4 for 4 yesterday against those lovable Cubbies. He’s a NL starter and a deeper mixed league option at 2B or MI. It seems like I’ve heard about Walker forever – he’s only 24 – keep an eye on him in 2011 as a possible under the radar guy who may only cost you a buck or three.
Marco Scuturo BOS -Jon Lester goes out and gives up 5 runs early and his lineup not only bails him out, but delivers him a W. In the comeback, 6-run inning, Scuturo hit a 2-run HR to tie the game. He’s been playing well recently and can be used in deeper formats.
Nyjer Morgan WAS – What’s your deal? Morgan was involved in a bench-clearing, clothesling, royal rumble on Thursday night. Morgan has played some questionable ball over the last week and he got thrown at naturally – by starter Chris Volstad – for retaliation for running over catcher Brett Hayes the previous night. Well, in a blowout game on Wednesday, he goes on to steal 2nd and 3rd base. Right. Well, he got thrown behind and… benches cleared, Morgan looked liked The Italian Meatball trying to swing at “Thunderlips” in Rocky 3, and Gaby Sanchez plowed Morgan like old school Legion of Doom and their Doomsday Device finisher. Yup, an official wrestling reference. Anyway, after the melee, Morgan went on to scream a couple F-Bombs and other nice things. Expect a big, fat suspension fantasy owners. If you haven’t scene it, here it is…. IN JAPANESE! It’s F@#$%N FANTASTIC! It’s taped over, but who cares. It’s like when Spanish announcers scream for a goal during soccer – but maybe better because of the fight and reaction. Enjoy.
College football is starting today… I’m so excited. To get you pumped, one of my favorite sports’ movies out there, The Program. Kids, stay off the steroids, you don’t need them…. Unless, you’re Roger Clemens….
09.02.10. Lady of the Week. Kate Beckinsale. Kind of cold in here. Came home from my dub yesterday – was too tired to do anything… Watched Hard Knocks though…. Lots of fantasy news to get to – call-ups were made. Will get some stuff up later, I hope, I have class today.
Holy Nyjer Morgan, Batman. Do you think Gaby Sanchez has a job waiting for him in the WWE when his playing days are over? Nice clothesline, Rook.
