Fantasy 40/40: Fantasy News From Around the Diamond

  • Alex Rios CHW - Went 5 for 6 with a HR, 4 RBI, 3 R and a SB.  That’s a nice day.  Rios is a TOP 5 overall player in standard 5×5 leagues, has 8 RBI in the last 5 games and has Manny on the way.
  • Jason Heyward ATL – The Hotlanta rookie continues to play some of his better ball – going 4 for 5 with a HR and 4 RBI.  He’s a rookie of the year candidate and helping a division leading Braves club in their stretch run.  Hopefully, his thumb is no longer an issue and is a must start in all formats.
  • Martin Prado ATL – My man.  Prado continues to play All-Star caliber baseball – he’s now playing third base which will help his value in 2011.  Got to love that fantasy owners.  He had 3 RBI and a SB, batting third now,  yesterday against the Mets.
  • Mark Reynolds ARI - The Sheriff, as Mark Grace likes to call him, went yard twice last night,  making it 30 and 31 on the year.  Unfortunately, Reynolds is batting under .220.  Start him if you have him – I don’t know if I could ever live with that average though.  More power to you.
  • Robinson Cano NYY - Cano continues his MVP season, 3 for 4 with a HR, 3 RBI and 3 R scored.  He’s .325-26-90-92 on the season – he might be the number one next year at the keystone.
  • Mark Teixeira NYY – Made his way back to the lineup and went 3 for 3 with a short fly, number 29 of the year.
  • Jay Bruce CIN – Batting leadoff and hitting bombs.  Bruce went yard again and has 18 on the year – hasn’t yet lived up to his hype, but I still expect big things from the lefty slugger.
  • Carlos Pena TB – Big dog had a long ball and 4 RBI in the win over the Sox.  He’s got 26 and is, like Mark reynolds, batting under .220.
  • Miguel Tejada SD – He had a HR yesterday and now has 3 HR and 14 RBI in the NL.  He’s a decent option at SS or MI and can be used in deeper mixed leagues.
  • Adam Dunn WAS - He’s got 33 and 88 this year – and is batting a whopping .265.  Take that Mark Reynolds.
  • Hiroki Kuroda LAD – Had a no-no thru 7.1 INN last night against the fighting Phils.  Look at the numbers, Kuroda should be owned in more leagues.
  • JA Happ HOU – Speaking of the Phillies, this ex-Phillie threw a complete game, shutout last night against the struggling Cardinals.  Happ is 3-1 since his return from the DL and should be owned in mixed leagues.
  • Jonathan Sanchez SF – Damn you, Brian Wilson.  I could use the wins in one of my mixed leagues.  Sanchez was brilliant last night, shutting down the Rockies, only to see his game and shutout ruined by Brian Wilson, Carlos Gonzalez, Cody Ross and Freddy Sanchez – 8 INN and 6 K.
  • Jorge De La Rosa COL - Sanchez’s opponent, De La Rosa matched his counterpart and was just as good, going 7 INN with 9 K and 1 ER.
