Fantasy 40/40: Fantasy Baseball News From Around the Diamond
By Tito on August 3rd, 2010
- Prince Fielder MIL – SO… the Brewers… beat the Cubs… 18-1! On 26 hits! The worst part? I don’t own a single, F%$#!N Brewer! Lil Cecil went 5 for 7, had 5 RBI and 2 R scored. Not a single F’N one.
- Ryan Braun MIL – The Hebrew Hammer also went 5 for 7 in the absolute beat down of the Cubs. Scored 3 times but he only had 2 RBI.
- Casey McGehee MIL – Another member of the Brew Crew demolishing committee, McGehee helped the campaign with a 2 for 5 performance including a HR and 4 RBI. He started the year hot, cooled off and now has started to heat back up. His production thus far is too good to sit in deep mixed leagues. Curious. What do you think poor Lou Pinella was thinking through all this? I can’t wait for next year. No Cubs. No Zambrano. No worries. Retiring in Tampa. The beach and margaritas? No salt please.
- Matt Kemp LAD - He just went 5 for 5. HR. 3 RBI. And then he went home to Rihanna. Yeah.
- Adrian Beltre BOS - The man has been en fuego since the break, went 2 for 3 with 2 HR and 5 RBI against the Tribe Monday night.
- Chase Headley SD – A sleeper pick in March, Headley has played adequately this season – on pace for 12/20. He had a HR, 3 RBI and 3 R scored and is now riding a seven-game hitting streak.
- Nick Swisher NYY - Swisher Sweets was bluntastic on Monday, hitting 2 bombs and driving in 3. The Bronx Bombers lost however, not because of Swish, but because AJ Burnett deserves nuts on his chin.
- BJ Upton TB – Speaking of nuts on chins, BJ put his on young catcher Drew Butera of the Twins. He stole three times on Monday. He’s still batting .232. I think he’s overrated. But he does have 31 SB and is on pace for 47 this season.
- Evan Longoria TB - BJ’s occasional sparring partner wasn’t about to be left out of the fun, as Longo had a HR and a SB last night. He’s not going to reach 40 or even 30 HR this season, but is on pace for a David Wright-esque 23/23.
- Perrey Reeves HBO- Ari Gold’s wife on Entourage. Damn. You win. She looked filthy good on Sunday night.
- Rajai Davis OAK – One of my speed sleepers that actually panned out (I’m starring at you Borbon and Alcides), Davis has 32 SB this season and is batting a respectable .280.
- Vernon Wells TOR – 2 for 5 with a HR (21) and 2 RBI (57).
- Jeff Keppinger HOU - Jeff Keppinger? That’s right, Jeff Bleeping Keppinger. Had a 2 for 5 performance with 4 rib-eye steaks. With his new found playing time, Keppinger has started to swing the wrenches and is worth owning if you need MI help in deeper leagues.
- Will Venable SD – Ryan Ludwick will get a permanent spot in the outfield. The Whale’s Vagina has about 30 outfielders so Willy will have to fight for some time in the other corner oufield spot. Venable had a little DL time recently but is back and added 4 RBI on Monday to help his case. He should only be used in NL leagues.
- Trevor Cahill OAK – The dude is dealing right now. Complete game. 3 K, 3 hits, 4 BB and no earned runs. Yes it was against the Royals, but who cares.
- AJ Burnett TOR – And this guy…
- Johan Santana NYM – With the Mets playing Atlanta and Philly this week, they are looking to make up much needed ground. Santana went out to set the tone. He gave up 3 runs in the first, 4 runs all day and went 7 INN. He’s pitched really well lately so continue to start him in all formats. Just hope the Mets start hitting.
- Travis Wood CIN - With both Homer Bailey and Aaron Harang on the DL, Wood has filled in like an All-Star. In 7 starts, he has a 2.41 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP in 44.2 INN with a 37 to 11, K:BB ratio. He’s worth owning.
- Emmanuelle Chriqui HBO – Sloan on Entourage. I’m sorry, she wins. Her character really is perfect. She let Eric drive while she rode shotgun down the Hershey Highway. Really? Excuse me, but I got to go, something just came up… (47 sec later…) Ok, I’m back.
- Jeremy Hellickson TB - Another young stud the Rays have produced. Jeremy “Hellboy” Hellickson got the win Monday night by going 7 INN, allowing 2 runs on 3 hits with 6 punch outs. His reward for his outing? A trip back to the minors after the game. He is going to be a fixture in the Rays staff for years to come and should be in owned in all keeper and dynasty leagues – expect a September call-up.
- Yovani Gallardo MIL – He got 18 runs of support. Hell, Oliver Perez could have won this game. Well… Gallardo went 6 INN, giving up the lone run in the 18-1 victory on 2 hits. He had 12 strike outs – 142 on the year in just 126.2 INN of work. Fantasy stud.
- Jake Westbrook STL – A new face in a new place, Westbrook should become a CY Young pitcher now that he has pitching Yoda, Dave Duncan, at his side. Solid, Young Westbrook was in his debut with the Red Birds on Monday. 6 INN, 2 runs, 4 hits, a BB and a ND. He’s worth owning in NL leagues and can be used in deeper mixed leagues now that he’s on the Senior Circuit.
