Fantasy 40/40: Random Notes From Around the Diamond

  • Matt Garza TB - No-No number five this season in MLB, the third the Rays have been apart of this year.  Weird.  Garza blew out his arm last night for 120 pitches and was throwing straight cheese.  No-hitting the Detroit Tigers, Garza spotted his fastball around the zone all night and the Tigers couldn’t square anything decent up.  Thanks Captain Obvious.
  • Joe Mauer MIN - 5 for 5.  HR.  7 RBI.  3 R.  Joey Mac had a game in the 19-1 shallacking of the KC Royals last night.  He wasn’t the only Twin to produce nice numbers, but he was by far the best.
  • Jose Bautista TOR - Bombs over Baghdad.  Bautista launched number 28 last night, a three run shot.  That’s back to back games.
  • David Ortiz BOS – “You not Big Paaapi!”  Love that commercial.  Papi was big last night, going deep twice against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim of Calaifornia of America.  He busted out of his mini slump with 2 HR, 3 RBI and 2 R scored.
  • Aaron Hill TOR - He was a sexy pick in March.  I didn’t like him.  2 for 4 with a HR and 3 RBI yesterday.  That’s long ball #14 this season.  He’s batting .202.  .202 BA.  Ben Rothalasomething.  Nice pick Cowwahh!
  • Adam Lind TOR - Another guy trying to find his way in 2010, Lind might be showing signs of blossoming.  He went 3 for 4 with a HR, 2 RBI and 2 R scored.  He’s hit in 5 of the last 7 with 2 HR in that span.  Another Blue Jay that has disappointed, he is still on pace for 22 HR.
  • Seth Smith COL – Brad Hawpe has been a waste of space this year and Smith, with Ryan Spilboroghs are getting a bunch of time.  Smith, with that said time, took Brad Lidge into the bleachers in the 9th yesterday.  Lidge, close to blowing another save, escaped with the bases loaded.  Smith can be used in the deeper mixed leagues if you need OF help.  Lidge just sucks.
  • Danny Valencia MIN - Valencia had a Mauer-esque day and went a perfect 4 for 4 with a grandslam, his first HR of his MLB career.  He was called up for depth, but he is their future, and may have bought some time with this performance.
  • Matt Wieters BAL - 2 for 2 with 2 HR and 2 BB.  Off the DL and feeling good.  Maybe he finally produces like we all expected – or those of you who wasted a high round pick on a catcher.  Stupid.
