- 7.83 St. Louis Rick Ankiel’s Wild Pitches – Adam Jones, OF, BAL
- 7.84 Kingston We Be Buntin’ – Aaron Hill, 2B, TOR
INITIAL THOUGHTS & REACTIONS: I needed a 3B and Stewart was my next best available. After losing out on Wright, Longo, Zimmerman and Sandoval, I set my eyes on Stewart in the 8-10 rounds. A couple guys after me needed 3B and I didn’t think he’d return to me (Young went next). He’s 24 to start the season and was highly touted in the COL farm system. He’s the future for the Rockies and he’s the future at 3B for the 40/40 CLUB. He’s going to put up 25 HR with 30 in his future. He’s batted in the .300’s in the minors before so hopefully his .228 year was the exception, not the norm.
40/40 CLUB after Round 7 – Utley 2B. Tulowitzki SS. Votto 1B. Markakis OF. McCutchen OF. Phillips 2B. Ian Stewart 3B.
Cole Hamels and Josh Beckett were great value in the 7th. Thought they’d go earlier. The focus on youth has created some nice bargains early in the draft.
A pair of young OF go in Gonzalez and Cruz. Both are overall players. Might have taken Gonzalez at #77 if he was there.
I don’t know how to gauge A. Hill – similar to Ben Zobrist. I know they put up numbers, but lack of track record makes it difficult to gauge. That being said – pick #84 for Hill is a nice pick for We Be Buntin’.
Round 8
- 8.85 Kingston We Be Buntin’- Alexei Ramirez, SS, CHW
- 8.86 St. Louis Rick Ankiel’s Wild Pitches – Brandon Webb, SP, ARI
- 8.87 Rogers Naturals – Manny Ramirez, OF, LAD
- 8.88 San Diego The Smashing Blumpkins – Ubaldo Jimenez, SP, COL
- 8.89 Las Vegas Phantom Aces – Jake Peavy, SP, CHW
- 8.90 Scottsdale 40/40 Club – Jay Bruce, OF, CIN
- 8.91 Hanford Hye-Lites – Carlos Quentin, OF, CHW
- 8.92 Mission Viejo Andy Likes To Pettite – Joe Nathan, CL, MIN
- 8.93 Anaheim Smog – Ichiro Suzuki, OF, SEA
- 8.94 Scottsdale BOHICA – Howie Kendrick, 2B, LAA
- 8.95 Moorpark Nago’s Rippas Brah – Chone Figgins, 3B, SEA
- 8.96 Richmond Night Crawlers – Carlos Lee, OF, HOU
INTIAL THOUGHTS & REACTIONS: I have two young studs in the OF and wanted a 3rd. Our league only starts 3 OF at one time; I selected young, high upside, high potential guys who have showed something on this level before. Markakis, McCutchen, Bruce. That’s my starting OF for years to come – hopefully – and I plan on surrounding them with veteran starters in later rounds.
40/40 CLUB after Round 8 – Utley 2B. Tulowitzki SS. Votto 1B. Markakis OF. McCutchen OF. Phillips 2B. Ian Stewart 3B. Jay Bruce OF.
Thought Jimenez was a great pick. He’s 26, Colorado’s ace and still getting better.
Ichiro at #93 to SMOG – great value. He slipped somehow probably because of his 36-year-old tag.
I like Howie Kendrick a lot who was taken by BOHICA at pick #94. I see .330-15-70-70-10. And that’s just this year.
A couple of vets finish the round out. Figgins is taken to play 3B for Rippas Brah and Lee finishes Crawlers OF with Ellsbury, Hamilton and Lee.

I can’t believe Ichiro fell that far!!! The 93 pick is crazy good value for Ichiro in any type of league. He his a LOCK for 200 hits every year.
